Budget Decks

So Juza did pretty well in Paris with his take on the forgemaster deck, but using 3 Jace the Mind Sculptors and 3 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas alone puts the price way over £200 (>$320). I’ve come up with a budget version of the deck:MTG Blogger Blog Forgemaster

1x Myr Battlesphere
2x Trinket Mage
4x Kuldotha Forgemaster
1x Platinum Emporion
4x Grand Architect

4x See Beyond
1x Mindslaver
4x Go for the Throat
1x Contagion Engine
1x Elixir of Immortality
1x Chimeric Mass
1x Duress
4x Inquisition of Kozilek
3x Tumble Magnet
4x Everflowing Chalice

12x Island
12x Swamp

Let me explain my choices. First off, there’s no planeswalkers and no Blighsteel Colossus; wins are generally like this:
Various artifacts such as everflowing chalice, tumble magnet and elixir of immortality are on the battlefield alongside Kuldotha Forgemaster. Trinket mage helps to get them there. At the end of your opponents turn after you play Forgemaster, you tap him, sacrifice 3 other artifacts and play a Myr Battlesphere. Then you untap, do as much as 12 damage with the Battlesphere by tapping the myrs it creates when you attack. Then you sacrifice 3 myrs with the Forgemaster and play Mindslaver; pay 4 and sacrifice it. You now control your opponents turn. If they are valakut you make the valakuts target themselves, control? Jace is gonna exile his own library (I’ve done it with this deck). Or generally leave them open to attack. Back to your turn and you finish them off with damage from the Battlesphere and the forgemaster.

See Beyond is useful for putting any of the expensive artifacts back and getting replacements (what JTMS does) Go for the Throat is some removal to slow down your opponent, duress and inquisition also help and are great turn 1 plays to remove early threats. The elixir can bring back anything you need that is destroyed. Platinum Emperion can stop most decks from killing you until they deal with it. Grand Architect helps you play big artifacts and Forgemaster quicker.

Chimeric Mass and Everflowing chalice can be played for 0 and sacrificed to the forgemaster if needed. Forgemaster can find a Contagion engine to take out pesky hawks or aggro decks.

Total Deck Cost: £85 ($137)

Ways to improve the deck:
Dual lands, Inkmoth Nexus, Tectonic Edge.
Tezzeret, Jace the Mind Sculptor.
